Working with Mark McCullough to re-create his masterful lighting design of La Traviata as his associate at the University of Indiana was an honor and remarkable challenge.
This was my first large scale production as an associate. As the sole member of the original lighting design team present, I faithfully recreated McCullough’s work, implementing changes to work around the larger space and new equipment.
As the Lighting Design Associate, my responsibilities involved:
Focusing and color matching each light in the rig
Standing in for the designer at production meetings and rehearsals
Representing the designer through the technical rehearsals
Editing the design to overcome inherent challenges in the space
Working with the Associate Director to preserve the original tone of the production
The section view demonstrates the coordination of fixture placement with overhead bridges and scenic elements.
The plan view demonstrates the size of the overhead lighting rig, modified from the original due to location and touring constraints.
Lighting instruments integrated into the scenery detailed in my draftings from the previous iteration.
